New UX and UI for The New Motion: a full redesign of the mobile charging app, a web charge point management portal, marketing materials, and the concepts for what the future of e-mobility will look like

Years
2014 - 2016
Roles
UX / UI Designer (remember when this was a title?)

The company was founded in 2009 with a mission to contribute to a cleaner world, and grew from there into a market leader in smart charging for electric drivers. Shell acquired the company in 2017 and rebranded it to Shell Recharge.

I joined the Technology and Innovation team in 2014, to work on a series of improvements to the company’s digital products. The app came first: one destination for everything electric driving asks for — finding a public charge point, registering and managing your own, tracking what you use, keeping up with the industry — and, on the road, every charge point nearby with its availability, speed and price, fast enough to take the range anxiety out of the drive.

In parallel to the driver, I designed solutions for the 1500 corporate locations New Motion serves, which need something else entirely: overview, utilisation and remote management of charge points that belong to a business rather than a person. Beyond that was e-city — what if a city took raising electric vehicle adoption and charge point management under its own control, and what would a tool at that scale look like?
